Certified by Melisa Pearce The Equine Gestalt Coaching Method™
The Equine Gestalt Coaching Method™ was developed by Melisa Pearce, a core founder since 1989 of the horse-human healing movement. The experiential nature of the method involves the horse as an active partner with the coach in the client’s exploratory process. The integrative approach of the equine’s interaction combined with positive coaching, somatic awareness guidance and Gestalt methodology, assists the client in examining their life and choices made with a focus on designing a positive future.

Healing That Happens Together
Our ongoing weekly group sessions run approximately 3 hours each and are capped at 10 participants. That small size is intentional. It creates the kind of trust and safety that allows real work to happen. Each session brings together adults who are ready to move beyond isolation and into genuine, body-based connection. Whether you are a stay-at-home mom, an empty nester, or simply someone who feels lost and wants to find their way back, this group was built for you. Sessions take place outdoors under a covered barn with fans and heaters available, so you can focus on the work regardless of the season.

Group Coaching Questions
Answers Before You Arrive
Do I need any experience with horses to join a group coaching session?
No prior experience with horses is needed. The sessions are guided by Sarabeth Weber, a Certified Equine Gestalt Coach trained through the Touched by a Horse® program, a two-year certification developed by Melissa Pierce. The equine partners are not ridden or handled in a traditional sense. The work is about being present with the horses and allowing their intuitive, non-judgmental responses to support your healing process. Participants of all backgrounds join these groups, and the small group size of up to 10 people helps everyone feel safe and supported from the very first session. How often do group sessions meet, and how long does each one last?
Group coaching sessions meet on an ongoing weekly basis. Each session runs approximately 3 hours. The consistent weekly schedule is intentional, as regular attendance supports the kind of sustained emotional progress and community trust that deeper healing work requires. At $200 per month, the group format is designed to be an accessible, ongoing commitment rather than a one-time experience. Interest in joining is handled through an inquiry form to help maintain the right fit and group chemistry. How many people are in each group coaching session?
Each group is capped at a maximum of 10 participants. This limit is a deliberate part of the program design. Keeping the group small creates the trust, safety, and intimacy needed for genuine somatic work alongside equine partners. It also allows Sarabeth to give meaningful attention to each participant throughout the session. Because of this cap, space in each group is limited, and joining requires submitting an inquiry rather than booking directly online. What should I wear and bring to a group session at the barn?
Closed-toed shoes are a strict requirement for all participants. Sandals and open-toed footwear are not permitted for safety reasons around the horses. Sessions take place outdoors under a covered barn at the Hillsborough location, so you should dress for the weather and plan to wear layers. Fans and heaters are available in the barn, but outdoor conditions can vary. Arriving prepared for the environment helps you stay comfortable and focused on the work throughout the full 3-hour session.Where should I park and what happens when I arrive at the barn?
The sessions are held at our barn location in Hillsborough, NC. When you arrive, park in the designated parking area. A staff member will meet you up top and escort you down to the barn from there. All participants are asked to arrive at least 15 minutes before the session begins. This arrival window is important for grounding yourself before the session starts and for ensuring the group can begin together on time. How does group equine coaching differ from a private one-on-one session?
Private Equine Gestalt Coaching sessions are 90-minute one-on-one experiences focused on individual healing through somatic awareness and equine partnership. Group coaching, by contrast, is a shared weekly experience where up to 10 participants work together over approximately 3 hours per session. The group format adds a layer of community connection and shared witness that the private session does not include. Both formats use the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method and take place at the Hillsborough barn, but they serve different needs and intentions. Is equine gestalt coaching the same as therapy, and does insurance cover it?
Equine Gestalt Coaching is a coaching modality, not a licensed clinical therapy service. It is grounded in the Equine Gestalt Coaching Method developed by Melissa Pierce through the Touched by a Horse® certification program, which is a somatic, experiential approach to personal growth and healing. It is specifically designed for people who want to move beyond talk-only approaches, not to replace clinical mental health treatment. Insurance coverage is not specified in available materials, so it is best to ask about this directly during the inquiry process.
